Robert Edward Slaughter, Sr., 57, a veteran Gulf employee, died suddenly Saturday at 2:00 pm in a doctor's office following a heart attack. Mr. Slaughter was Christmas shopping with members of his family when he became ill and went to the physician's office. Efforts to revive him proved fruitless. A native of Cumberland City, TN, Mr. Slaughter moved to Port Arthur 28 years ago and began work for the Gulf Company as a boilermaker. He was a veteran of World War I. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 am in the First Penecostal church. The Rev. H. B. Morgan, pastor, will officiate assisted by the Rev. Titus McDonald and the Rev. F. H. Ford. Burial will be in Black cemetery (now Oak Bluff Memorial Park)near Port Neches under the direction of Grammier Funeral Home. The body was taken to the family residence Saturday night where it is to lie in state until time for the services.
