Mrs. Ruby Slaughter, 67, a resident of Port Arthur died Saturday at 4:15 pm in Park Place hospital after a one-day illness. She had been in ill health but death was unexpected. A native of Elkhart, Texas, Mrs. Slaughter had been a Port Arthur resident since 1905. She was a member of the First Pentecostal church and was the wife of the late Robert E. Slaughter, Sr., who died in 1946. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the First Pentecostal church. The Rev. J.T. Pugh, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be by her husband in Oak Bluff Memorial Park,Port Neches, by the Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Burt Lee,Sr., Cecil Brown, W.J. Brown, Fritz DeLano, August Doiron and William Sonnenberg. Surviving are a son, Robert E. Slaughter, Jr., of Port Arthur; a daughter, Mrs. John A. Bombek of Groves; her mother, Mrs. Emily Allen, who made her home with Mrs. Slaughter; three sisters, Mrs. Bill (Jewel)Holmes of Woodville, Mrs. Otis Fawvor of Groves and Mrs. Ed Cooley of Singer, LA; and four grandchildren.
