One of the oldest Polish residents of Luzerne County, Matthew Paviak, aged 70, of 263 South Sherman street, city. died late last night at his home following a week's illness of complications. Mr. Payink, who was engaged in the tailoring business in Ashley for many years, was well known throughout Luzerne County and his death is a distinct shock to many acquaintances.
Deceased came to this country forty-one years ago and has resided in this region since. He was a devout communicant of St. Mary's Polish Church on Park avenue and was active in civic affairs besides being affiliated with local Polish fraternal organizations.
He is survived by his widow and the following children: C. A. Paviak, Forty Fort; Stanley, of Harrisburg; Stella, of New York City; Mrs. Joseph Podgaraki, Caroline, Sophia and Walter at home. The funeral will he held Monday morning from his late home with complete arrangements to be announced later.
