Wilma Mullinax Kirby Selfridge, age 85 of Asheville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior with her loving family by her side on Friday, April 1, 2022 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Ct. in Asheville, N.C. She was born November 10th, 1936 in Caldwell County to the late William Clarence and Eunice Moody Mullinax. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel J. Kirby Jr., three brothers: Jack Mullinax, Gerald Mullinax and Larry "Sandy" Mullinax, two sisters; Earlene Jolly and Nettie Dellinger.

Mrs. Selfridge was a member of First Baptist Church Swannanoa N.C. She graduated in 1955 from Lenoir High School. She loved planting flowers in spring, reading, family gatherings and visits from her children and grandchildren. Her door was always open. She had a genuine love for others especially the elderly as a caregiver for both her parents and she also served as caregiver for many other families in Caldwell County.

She was a devoted and supportive mother raising three children with an unwavering love. After retirement she and her beloved husband, Hartley of 16 years, enjoyed living in the mountains of Asheville until her passing. She was a beautiful and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend known for her loving and gentle spirit and she will be missed deeply by us all.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Hartley Selfridge of Asheville, three children: Sherry K. Austin partner Joel Suddreth of Georgia, Rev. Brooks Kirby wife Melanie of Lenoir, Patty K. Hodges husband Michael of Conover, one sister Mary Lou Baker husband Ervin of Charlotte. Four grandchildren: Joshua Clark of Lenoir, Maggie C. Justice husband Josh of Lenoir, Elizabeth K. Powell husband Ronnie of Hickory, and Thomasena A. Black husband Daniel of AL. Eight great-grandchildren: Ethan, Avery, Solomon, Mayleigh, Carly, Sydney, Zoey, and Lucas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, May 6th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Western Carolina State Veterans chapel with Rev. Brooks Kirby officiating. Interment will follow at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
