Funeral services for John Phillips Adams will be held at 2 p.m. today from the Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, by his pastor, Dr. R. Archie Ellis. Burial will be in Greenlaw Memorial Park.
Mr. Adams, 69, of 861 Arbutus Dr., former assistant vice president of the Federal Land Bank, died Thursday morning at the Providence Hospital after an illness of several days. He had just retired September 1.
Active pallbearers will be H.C. Merritt, R.M. Sassanett Jr., T.B. Sinson, W.I. McGibony, T.M. Baker, J.E. Dowe Jr, R.M. Franklin and C.D. Caughman.
Honorary pallbearers will be W.M. Harding, D.M. Dowdell Jr., C.S. Rigby Jr., L.B. Keister, T.M. Carlton, Robert H. Hodgen, Robert J. Jones, J.P. Murrah, Rufus R. Clarke, Julian H. Scarborugh, Robert Darr, James Dunfee, Ben S. Burch, and Robert A McDougall.

John Phillips Adams, 69, of 861 Arbutus Dr., former assistant vice president of the Federal Land Bank, died this morning in the Providence Hospital after an illness of several days.
He had retired September 1.
He was born in Tift County, Ga., the son of the late Seaborne Newton Adams and Elizabeth Brady Adams. He had been associated with the Federal Land Bank for the past 31 years.
Mr. Adams was a veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lucille Brown Adams; a daughter, Mrs. James H. (Francelle) Wiley, Bethlehem, Pa.; a son, Maj. John P. Adams Jr., U.S. Army, Bangkok, Thailand; seven grandsons; two brothers, Joe Benton Adams and Patrick Polk Adams, both of Tifton, Ga.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body will be at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
