Married Sarah September 24, 1868 Stockport,Iowa. Had 4 daughters, Nettie(1869-1891), Mary(1844), Lottie(1874-1954) & Myrtle Lethe(1876). He enlisted in Company C., 8th Iowa Cavalry, July 29, 1863 as Private and was discharged as 4th Sargeant(sic), June 8th, 1865. He was taken prisoner on the Stoneman and McCook Raid and was an inmate of Andersonville Prison for over seven months, to which can easily and certainly be traced the great burden of hs life and the final cause of his death.
