Olive Bender, 92, of Tavistock passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Maples Home for Seniors in Tavistock on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. She was born in East Zorra Township, Oxford County on February 4, 1924, a daughter of the late Daniel and Annie (Brenneman) Zehr. She was a member of Tavistock Mennonite Church. She married Orville Bender in East Zorra Township on August 28, 1946. He predeceased her on August 23, 2008. Olive is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Lyle and Jan Bender, Marlin and Brenda Bender, Kevin and Wendy Bender, all of Tavistock; Darryl and Gioela Bender of Timmins; six grandchildren, Christopher and Erin Bender, Stephanie Bender and Kirk MacRae, Karla and Dwayne Becker, Amy Bender, Kimberly and Jordan Destun, Justin and Inge Bender; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald and wife Ruth Zehr, Glenn and wife Mary Ellen Zehr; two sisters, Lillian Lichty and Katie Bender; sister-in-law, Joyce Zehr. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy and husband Arthur Bender; brothers, Vernon and wife Katie Zehr and Daniel L. Zehr; brothers-in-law, Armand Bender and Sam Lichty and "Bender" brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock St. North, Tavistock on Saturday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Tavistock Mennonite Church on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jim Brown will officiate. Interment in East Zorra Mennonite Cemetery, 16th line will follow the service. As expressions of sympathy, donations to MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) or TAP (Tavistock Assistance Program) would be appreciated and may be made through the Francis Funeral Home.
