JOHN S. JOURNEY PASSES AWAY

Dies At The Home of O.J. Shumaker

Well known Sterling resident breathes his last Wednesday morning -
Deceased a member of the German Baptist Church.

John Journey, Sr., died Wednesday at 4 o'clock at the residence of his son-
in-law, O.J. Shumaker, after a brief illness. The funeral was held Thursday at the
German Baptist Church at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. P.G. Keltner officiating.
Interment was in the new Mennonite cemetery.
John S. Journey was born in Perry county, Ohio. Aug.1, 1823. He resided in
that state until about fourty-five years ago when he moved to this state and
settled on a farm north of this city. About fifteen years ago he moved to this city,
where he has resided ever since.
At the age of about twenty-five he was married to Miss Mary Keckler at
Fairfield county, Ohio, who died Dec. 27, 1884. In 1888 he was married to
Miss Williams, of this city. She died in 1892. Seven children survive him,
they being Mrs. Phoebe Shumaker, of this city, John and Albert Journey,
of Abingdon; Mrs. Alice Hecker, of Hubbard, IA.; Mrs. Joseph Bursk, of this
city; Mrs Dora Gerdes, of Tennessee; and James, whose whereabouts
are not known.
He was a member of the German Baptist Church and a conscientious man.
He was a loving father and a man whose loss will be greatly felt in
the neighborhood in which he resided.
