Harry Beneo Gerlach, 94
DIED: the evening of Friday, April 1, 2022
PLACE: his Bountiful, Utah home

BORN: November 29, 1928
PLACE: Elbing, Ostprussia

PARENTS: Otto Karl and Emilie Ottile (Weiss) Gerlach (both deceased)

SIBLINGS (4): one unnamed brothers, Elfrieda Liselotte (Elbert Lee) Palmer, formerly of Idaho; Fred Horst (Lois Grace Henderson) Gerlach, formerly of West Valley, Utah; (all deceased) and Henry O. (Carol Sue Lowe) Gerlach, formerly of Chandler, Arizona

Harry was an infant when his parents immigrated with their children to the United States. Initially, they settled in Rochester, New York, where Harry was raised and educated.

His sister married and moved out West in 1948, the same year Harry had joined the U. S. Air Force. Harry was stationed in Denver, Colorado where he met a fascinating stewardess, who became his bride.

MARRIED: Thea Schindler
DATE: 1951
PLACE: Denver, Colorado
(Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)

The newlyweds remained in Denver where their first child--a son--was born. When Harry was reassigned to San Antonio, Texas, they relocated with him. Their second child--a daughter--was born there. After Harry left the USAF, he and Thea moved to Rose Park, Utah where their growing family lived during most of the fifties. Then, they built a home in the Val Verda area of Bountiful and added their final two children. Neighbors and friends affectionately dubbed their home and yard, "Gerlach Park" as the area became the center of activity for the area of busy, growing, young families. Harry and Thea moved their clan to California where they lived for part of the sixties, but realized that "home" was back in Val Verda and moved back where they felt they belonged.

CHILDREN (6): Harry Beneo "Ben" (deceased; Vicki Knowlton) Gerlach, of Syracuse, Utah; Gail Thea (Ian Paul) Sampson, of Fairwood, Renton, Washington; Patricia "Tricia" (Jim) Lindorff, of Bountiful, Utah; Richard Alan (Trish) Gerlach, of Kamas, Utah; Russel Trent (Karen Standing) Gerlach, of Bountiful; and Valarie Marie (Mark) Jolley, of Grapevine, Texas

As grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, Harry and Thea continued to host family reunions and holiday celebrations at Gerlach Park for several years. But once their health and age made its maintenance too difficult, they made the hard decision to move into a smaller home just west of Viewmont High School, in the Bountiful Twelfth (now Page's Lane) Ward area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A few years later, as Thea's health declined, she moved into a local assisted living center, leaving Harry alone in their two-story home. After her death in 2017, Harry remained in his home until he joined his bride.

Funeral services were held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, April 7, 2022 in the Stone Creek Stake Center, 1476 North 300 West, Bountiful, followed by interment alongside Thea, in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
