George Pontrella, 94 of Belleville passed away on Thursday March 31, 2022. Born and raised in Newark, he was the son of the late Francesco and Vincenza (Cupoli) Pontrella. George came to Belleville in 1945 and was a machinist with Centerless Products in Newark before retiring. A proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member American Legion Post 105, the Disabled American Veterans, Belleville Chapter and Veteran of Foreign Wars, Stuart Edgar Post 493 in Nutley. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Agnes "Betty" (Burke) Pontrella, his two step daughters Wanda Dingee and Patricia (Dingee) Graham, he is survived by his stepchildren, Robert Dingee and his wife Joan and Jackie Smith and her husband Doug, grandson Robert Dingee Jr, his brother, George Gugilotta and his wife Marge, his sister Helen Smith and sister-in-law, Helen Pontrella. George also leaves his dear nieces and nephews, James, Jr. & Sharon Pontrella, John & Mary Pontrella, Mary & Richard Lansmann, Anne & Michael Soliman, Diane & Guy Vicari, Susan Scioscia, Joseph & Lisa Pontrella and Thomas & Stephanie Pontrella along with 19 grand nieces and nephews and 8 great grand nieces and nephews.

Visitors will be received at the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St. Nutley on Friday April 8, 2022, from 9-10:30 am.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, Belleville at 11 am followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
