John Max Newman, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at White Oak at North Grove. Born September 26, 1933 in Knoxville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late William Dallas Newman, Sr. and Addie Rose Newman. He was married to the late Jean Kimsey Newman, who died in 2015.

A manager/district supervisor for 40 years with Sky City, Max was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, member of the Gideons, and a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Melissa Jill Judy (Perry) of Spartanburg, SC; sister and brother-in-law Katherine Perryman (Bill) of Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren, all of Spartanburg, SC, Anna Christine Judy, John David Judy, and Joseph Benjamin Judy; one great-grandson on the way, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 5 to 7 PM at Floyd's North Church Street, 235 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. A graveside service will be Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 2 PM at Toccoa City Cemetery, 325 Falls Rd., Toccoa, GA 30577, conducted by the Reverend Sal Barone.
