Obituary
Veda Florine Rasmussen, our loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2022. On April 30, 1930, she was born to Aurelia Hope Pratt and Charles Milton Smith in Fresno, California. Her mother, sadly, passed away early in her life. She married Martin Epperson on August 25, 1943; they had nine children together and later divorced.

On December 18, 1971, she married the love of her life, Evan Jay Rasmussen. She was a devoted wife and mother. Veda was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings. One of her cherished experiences was serving as a missionary with her husband Jay in Ohio. Years later, Veda and Jay left Las Vegas and moved to Bellingham, Washington, to live near their daughter Carol Linde and her husband Allan Linde. Carol and Allan cared for both Jay and Veda.

She was always ready and willing to try new things. She attended secretarial and real estate schools. Veda knew the importance of learning and educated herself by reading and studying throughout her life. Veda really loved sewing and baking. She had side businesses sewing bridesmaids dresses and baking wedding and birthday cakes. Painting was one of her passions. Anyone that has one of her original paintings will attest to her talents.

People could always expect a smile on her face. She loved to laugh, and tell jokes. Veda was a compassionate spirit and spent her whole life serving others. Even with a large family, Veda always made everyone feel special and loved.

Veda is survived by her children Don (Toni), Carol (Allan), Susan, Steven, Daniel (Cindy), David (Melynda), Melanie (Humam), Larry (Jennifer), and Jay's children Robin (Bill), Jerry (Nancy), Shelly, Steven (Brenda), Randy (Kathy), 37 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Veda was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Jay, six siblings, and son Kenneth.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 5800 Northwest Drive, Ferndale, WA, on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 11am.

A private family viewing and burial will be held Friday at 9 a.m., March 25.
