RONALD JAY AMALONG, 87, of Fort Lauderdale, FL - he was the son of Raymond and Agnes Amalong.
Ron graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1956, received his MD from Pitt's School of Medicine in 1961 and was a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge and the USS Forrestal, an attack carrier stationed in the Mediterranean. Ron was an ophthalmologist for many years in Winter Park and Ft. Lauderdale. He was also medical director of Vision Health International, a non-profit organization which performs surgical eye care throughout Latin America. He will be remembered for a lifetime of helping others and a tolerance and compassion for all. Ron was a father to his three children, Natalie, Bradley, and Matthew and five grandchildren, Caitlyn, Hannah, Julian, Herley and Van. He was a partner to Douglas Sanders for 32 years and is also survived by the mother of his children, Jocelyn. Ron was predeceased by his brother, Russell.
