He joined the United States Navy in 1961 and retired a Senior Chief in 1988. Throughout his Navy career, he was stationed at NAS Brunswick, ME; NAS South Weymouth, MA; NAS JRB New Orleans, LA; NAS Cecil Field and NAS Jacksonville, FL; and NAS Atlanta, GA, and served on aircraft carriers including the U.S.S. Nimitz, WASP, Eisenhower, and Roosevelt.
Dave loved movies, especially history and cheesy action films, reading military novels, everything Navy, listening to oldies music, classic cars, hunting and fishing, and being in the mountains. He had a dry, sarcastic, and silly sense of humor, liked to play practical jokes on friends and family, and spend time with his family.
Dave is survived by his son, David Earl Crawford, Jr. (Callie) of Canton, NC; his daughter, Susan Marie Crawford Brinkley (Jim) of Asheville, NC; granddaughters, Lauren Brooke and Hannah Parker; five great grandchildren; his brother, Jackie Crawford; and a sister, Betty Hawkins.
