Earl David Crawford Sr., 63, of Beech Street Extension, formerly of Searsburg, died Thursday morning at Putnam Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Covey & Allen Funeral Home in Wilmington. The Rev. Dr. Paul Blacketor, pastor of Wilmington Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Crosier Cemetery, Searsburg, in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 8. Mr. Crawford was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Heartwellville, son of Leon and Maude (Tatro) Crawford. He attended schools in Readsboro and Searsburg. He spent most of his life as a self-employed logger. He also worked for New England Power Co. for four years, served as road commissioner for the Town of Searsburg and prior to his retirement was employed by the Vermont Highway Department. He was a member of the Eagles lodge in Bennington. Surviving are his wife, Luella (Dorman) Crawford; two sons, David of Slidell, La., and Earl Jr. of Whitingham; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Hawkins, address unknown; three stepsons, David, Samuel and Anthony Martin, all of Bennington; three brothers, Edward of Whitingham, Leon of Wilmington and Jerold of Clifton Park, N.Y.; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Wood of Greenfield, Mass., Mrs. Mary Watt of Springfield, Mass., and Mrs. Pauline Wood of Shelburne Falls, Mass.; a half sister, Mrs. Josephine Kilbride of Searsburg; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, an aunt, an uncle and several cousins.
