"William Keith James, son of Marmaduke and Lenora Gash James, was born August 28, 1888, near Excelsior Springs, Mo. He passed away in McFall, August 27, 1953, one day before his 65th birthday.
His parents moved to Bethany when he was a small child. After graduating from the Bethany high school in 1911 he began teaching in rural schools of Harrison county. The teaching vocation was followed for 42 years. At the time of his death, he was Superintendent of the school at McFall.
He was united in marriage with Elsie Bowen of Hatfield, on March 23, 1918. To this union was born three sons and one daughter, Harold, located at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, Irlene Walsh of Chicago, Ill., Ollie of Kansas City, Mo. The youngest son, Carroll, of Honolulu, Hawaii, was unable to come home.
Surviving also are a granddaughter, Patricia Walsh, a brother, Floyd, of San Antonion, Tex., and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. James was a member of the Presbyterian church and of the Masonic Order.
Mr. James, thinking almost to the last of his school duties, will be sadly missed by his family, his community and his vast wealth of friends. His spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of the many children who have felt his influence through the years.
Funeral services were held at the mcFall Methodist Church at McFall at 2 p.m. Sunday. Rev. C.W. Cardwell, assisted by Rev. Porter Hopkins officiated. Burial was in the Winston Cemetery."
W.K. James served in the Fourth Infantry, Company G of the Missouri National Guard during the Mexican Border conflict in 1916. He also served with the Rainbow Division and served overseas from June 28, 1918 to May 24, 1919, as a stretcher bearer.
