Wilma Scieszinski passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2022.

Wilma was born July 15, 1931 to Arthur Glen and Bertha Olive "Howk" Overturf at their farmstead near Lineville, IA.

She attended grade school in Lucas County until she was 10 years old. Her family then moved to a farm near Iconium, where Wilma graduated from Moravia High School in 1949.

She then married her high school sweetheart, Robert Scieszinski on November 19, 1949.

Wilma and Bob moved to Newton, IA where Wilma worked as a secretary until her first child was born in 1952.

When Bob's brother went into the service, Bob and Wilma headed back home to help out with the family farm.
Several years and four children later, Bob had a job offer in Des Moines so the family moved again. Wilma was anxious about raising a family in the "big city" but later came to love it, where their fifth child was born.

After the children were all in school, Wilma went back to work as a secretary. The work she was most proud of was in politics and government. She worked 12 years as a secretary for four different State Representatives; as Campaign Manager for the then-Secretary of Agriculture; and Office Manager for JoAnn Zimmerman, who was running for Governor.

Wilma also served as a board member of the Women's Business and Professional Association.

Wilma was very involved with the Catholic Cursillo movement, was on many church boards and a member of Altar and Rosary Society.

Wilma was also very involved with her children's school and sports activities as a volunteer, team mother, and a multitude of other duties. Though she loved her work, community and church involvement, Wilma always said that her greatest role and career was that of being "Mother".

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Sr.; sons, James Raymond and David Glen; and her son-in-law, Richard J. Wilson, Jr.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Augustin Catholic Church on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation and luncheon will follow, with internment at Glendale Cemetery at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Wilma.
