Linda Joan (Adkins) Griffin was born to John and Ella Adkins in Ogden, Utah. She was the third of nine children. Linda grew up on a mink ranch in Coalville, Utah, where she learned the value of hard work and love of family, country, and God.
Linda graduated as valedictorian from North Summit High School in 1959. The first of her family to attend college, Linda graduated from the University of Utah in 1963. She met her husband, David Griffin, while serving as the secretary of the bowling league on campus. They were married in 1969 at the LDS student chapel at the University of Utah and sealed in the Washington D.C. LDS Temple in 2018.
Linda was a talented educator who touched the lives of elementary school children across the country as she lived and taught in several different states before finally putting down roots in Omaha, Nebraska. She retired from teaching once her favorite students - her children, David, Jackie, and Kim were born. Her background in teaching coupled with her natural gifts of patience, compassion, and unconditional love created an environment where her children thrived knowing they were always loved and supported. Linda loved her family more than anything. Nearly every square inch of useable wall space in her home was covered with pictures of her children; once her grandchildren were born, David joked about needing an addition to the house to display all her family photos. Linda did not let the fact that her grandchildren were spread out across the country stop her from frequently traveling to see them. She lived to snuggle them as babies, read to them as toddlers, and spoil them with cards and packages of goodies in the mail. Her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy in life.
In addition to spending time with her family, Linda loved trivia and word games. She loved talking politics, and this was the only time she ever raised her voice. Visitors could count on her house being decorated for every holiday - especially Christmas. Linda loved the ocean and collected seashells; this seashell collection was proudly displayed year-round until Christmastime when it was temporarily supplanted for her collection of Department 56 Snow Village. She served diligently through the years in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Linda is survived by her husband of 52 years, David; her son Dr. David (Nicki) Griffin; her daughter Jackie (Dave) Griffin Fredericks; her daughter Kim (Josh) Carter; her grandchildren Henry, Cora, Georgia, Kaitlyn, Samantha, Katie, and Grant; her siblings Robert (Helen) Adkins, Ella Mae (Boyce) Judd, Teri Adkins, Lori (Don) Winters, and Janet (Lynn) Jackson. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella Adkins, and her siblings Louise Symes, John Adkins, and Frank Adkins.
A visitation will be held at the Coalville LDS Chapel, 40 N. Main Street, on March 12, 2022 from 9:30-10:30am. A celebration of Linda's life will start at 11am with interment at the Coalville City Cemetery following the celebration. Flowers may be sent to Walker Mortuary 45 W 200 N Morgan, Utah 84050.
