Carolyn Cusumano (Pence)
Tuesday, January 20th, 1931 - Monday, March 7th, 2022

Carol Pence Cusumano, 91, of Roanoke, Virginia, formerly of Crown Point, Indiana died on Monday, March 7, 2022 with her family by her side. Carol was born on January 20, 1931 in Glen Park, Indiana to Lawrence Charles Pence and Anna Elizabeth Simmons Pence. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter Cusumano; her daughter, Janice Cusumano; brothers, Everett Charles Pence (Marian), Robert Merle Pence, and Ramon Burdette Pence (Jean); and her sister, Phyllis Donnabelle Devine (Tom).

Carol was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church in Crown Point, and more recently, St. Andrews Catholic Church in Roanoke. She was an outgoing, friendly woman who never met a stranger. Carol may have been small in stature but she had a big personality, her cheerful positivity could brighten any room. One of Carol's favorite things to say was, "Have a Rainbow Day!"

Carol worked as a baker at the Wilco Food Center in Lowell, Indiana for many years, but her greatest adventure was becoming a Certified Water Aerobics Instructor when she was in her 70's. Carol found great happiness in her role as instructor at the YMCA. Although she had no grandchildren, Carol was known to spoil and pamper her grand-dogs.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Judy Smith (Randy) and Joanne Cusumano (Joe Emig); son-in-law, Guy Richards; Best friends, Mary Lou Rosenbaum, Louise Luchene and Rose Hall; and numerous extended family members.

The family would like to thank the Transitional Care Unit Nursing staff at Friendship Health & Rehab-North for the loving care and kindness they provided to Carol and her family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at St. Andrews Catholic Church with Father Anthony Ferguson officiating. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service.
