Thomas Arthur Ames 69 of Catlin, Illinois, passed away at 3:38 pm Wednesday March 2 2022 at home with family by his side.

He was born February 26 1953 in Danville, Illinois to Carl E. and Alberta M. Hickman Ames. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Dale Michael Brandenburg and Matthew Daniel Lane Ames; a brother, Russell (Rusty) Ames; a sister, Marilyn Ames Coburn two close friends, Jerry McCoy and Mike Fitzwater.

He married Lorie Cox Ames on October 15 1983 and she survives. Also surviving are four children, Thomas R Ames, Ted (Jann) Ames, Lisa (Kenny) Oaks and Michael (Ashley) Ames; sisters, Donna (Ed) Ames Wallis and Rose (Jim) Ames Watson; brothers, Mark Ames Sr. and David (Laurie) Ames; grandchildren, Kalie (Zach), Austin, Aubrie, Kaleb, Alexis, Dominick, Karlee, Dakota, Lillian, Michael, Hunter and Jordan; several nieces and nephews; special longtime friends Leo Speakman, Rick Long and Gary Schroeder and brother-in-law, Larry Ross.

Tom retired from UPS Freight in 2019. He was a terrific truck driver and was a driver most of his life and in his early career he worked for Mervis Industries where Lou Mervis was a very good friend to Tom. Tom was also a volunteer firefighter for many years with Lynch Fire Department. Tom loved spending time with his family, going camping and fishing, and he loved participating in Demolition Derby's alone and with his sons.

Per Tom's wishes he will be cremated, a celebration of life will be held March 11 2022 at 5 pm at the Tilton Civic Center with a meal following.
