Mary E. (Maxine) Crabtree Slaven Ross, age 87 of Oneida, TN departed this life peacefully on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. She went by many names of Mary, Maxine, Mack, and the family called "Aunt Doddle." She was born on June 8, 1934 to the late William Crit Crabtree and Mary Bell Kidd Crabtree of Pine Knot, KY. She was of the Baptist faith. Her favorite thing to do was shop at the Goodwill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Roy Slaven and Virgil Ross; brothers, Ernest, Chester (Shirley), Walter (Wilda), Bill (Faye), Frank, and infant brother Kenneth Crabtree; sisters, Irene (Pat) Burke, Dora (Bob) Maynard, Nora (Frank) West, and infant sister Margaret Crabtree; grandson, Justin Blake Chambers.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanie and husband Jerry Chambers of Oneida; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn and husband Phillip Meredith of Winfield, TN; grandchildren, Rheanna Chambers, TJ and Cole Meredith; sister, Lorene Phillips of Stearns, KY; sisters-in-law, Irene Crabtree and Mary Crabtree of Pine Knot, KY, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. James Roberts officiating.
Committal service will be on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 10 a.m. in the Reed Cemetery in Oneida. Pallbearers will be: Tony Phillips, Tim Phillips, Greg Phillips, Michael Phillips, TJ Meredith, and Cole Meredith.
