Karen Blizzard Garmon, 79, of Port Clinton, Ohio, died Tuesday February 22, 2022 from complications from cancer, which she bravely fought like the energizer bunny for over the last 5 years. While only an elementary teacher for 2 years following graduation from Ohio University in 1964, she was a loving mentor and role model to many young women throughout her life. Karen was a 4-H advisor in North Canton, Ohio, a chaperone for the church youth group on several trips for the Appalachia Service Project, a high school band parent volunteer, and a Sigma Kappa sorority advisor. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, was active in the sorority alumni chapter, and a charter member of Club Red in Port Clinton. Karen lived life by the motto "Live Well, Love Much, Laugh Often", and boy did she excel at all those things! She was a whirlwind of activity, crafting, hosting gatherings of family and friends, and was loved by more people in her life than we can count.

Karen was born on October 3, 1942 in Tiffin, Ohio to Allen and Grace (Fashbaugh) Hansen (both deceased), and grew up on a turkey farm in Swanton, Ohio. She graduated from OU in 1964 and married David Blizzard (deceased) in 1965. Dave introduced her to a love of Lake Erie, where they spent many years boating and fishing before building their dream home on Catawba Island. They had two children, John David Blizzard (deceased) and Kathleen Maree Falter (Geoff). She was blessed with three grandchildren: Mitchell and Megan Fanok, and Maiya Falter. Karen was fortunate to find a second love in her life, and married Vick Garmon on June 14, 2014. This true Texas gentleman introduced Karen to a whole new world of southwest food, cowboy boots, turquoise jewelry, and a colorful style suitable for their many travels both home and abroad. Karen will be dearly missed by many friends and family, including siblings Dwight Hansen (Bonnie), Beth Heilmann (Dick), as well as nieces and nephews Linda Rodgers (Bill), Tami Butler (deceased), Nicky Rothmann (Tom), Nathan Heilmann (Christine), Jeff Hansen (Christy), Dennis Hansen (deceased). Karen leaves behind a sewing room full of unfinished quilts, a legacy of love and laughter, and a hole in many hearts.

In lieu of flowers, Karen and family request donations to be made to American Red Cross - Club Red, 109 East Perry Street, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452 or Faith United Methodist Church, 300 Ninth St NW, North Canton, Ohio 44720, https://www.myfaithunited.org
