Marilyn grew up in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School. She married Rufus Reese on March 3, 1960 in Clayton, New Mexico. Marilyn has been a resident of Ulysses since 1961. She worked at Gibson's Discount Center for a number of years, and then at Sullivan Grade School as a cook until her retirement. Marilyn was an active member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church and often helped with funeral dinners and was a greeter. She enjoyed playing Buncos with her friends every week and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Marilyn is survived by two step children, Bob Reese and Joan St Nicholas, both of Benton, Arkansas; children, Mike Martin and wife Sharon of Olathe, Kansas, John Martin of Ulysses, Kansas, Rick Reese and wife Sally of Brighton, Colorado, Sandy Lane and husband Billy of Ulysses, Kansas and LeAnn Alcala and husband Danny of Pensacola, Florida; siblings, Bob Mader and Mary Ann Bennett, both of Garden City, Kansas; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rufus on May 3, 2017; granddaughter, Julie Alcala; siblings, Leonard Mader, LaVern Mader, and Jenette Peterson.
Rosary will be Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 9:00 AM and Funeral Mass will be Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 10:00 AM both at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend Charles Seiwert officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
