MARRIOTT--George Harvey Butler, 77, one of the earliest resident of Marriott and active worker in the North Weber Stake for more than 50 years. died Tuesday afternoon at the family home after a lingering illness. Born in Kaysville December 23, 1858, a son of William and Emma Harvey Butler. be moved with his parents to Marriott when a year old. He had lived here since, engaging in farming. His Church service included five years of missionary work in the 1880s in England, Michigan, Nevada and in the western states field. He also served as home missionary for seven years. He was on the North Weber Stake High Council for 18 years, was chairman of the Stake Genealogical Board for eight years, and senior president of the Quorum of Seventies of the North Weber Stake for 10 years.
Surviving are his widow and nine sons and daughter by his first wife, Royal H. and Norvin Butler. Mrs. Arenie Anderson, Mrs. Carl Stone, Mrs. Lawrence Dalton, Mrs. E. Kennedy, Mrs. Cleve Powlsen, Mrs. George Gibbs. all of Ogden, and Mrs. Harold Nichols of Salt Lake City: 45 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and nine brothers and sisters, Brigham H. Butler and Mrs. William Carter of Marriott; Mrs. George Bateman and Mrs. Hazel Mullen of Salt Lake City: Wilford H. Butler and Mrs. Robert Bell of Ogden; Heber C. Butler of Garland Mrs. John Turner of Grace, Idaho, and Orson Butler of California. Funeral announcements will be made from the Linduist & Sons mortuary in Ogden.
