Velma Ruth Alderman Nester

Velma Ruth Alderman Nester, 73, of Christiansburg, previously from Radford, passed away surrounded by family after her long battle with metastatic breast cancer on Sunday, February 6, 2022. Velma was born on October 24, 1948, in Shorts Creek, Carroll County, to the late Orby Kyress Alderman and Betty Ruth White Alderman.

She was a graduate of Hillsville High School, Wytheville Community College, and

Radford University. Velma was highly regarded and respected during her 37 years as a Human Resources Manager with Kollmorgen/Inland Motor of Radford, Va. Colleagues at Kollmorgen were like second family, where she built lifelong cherished friendships.

Velma married Vander Maurice Nester in 1967. Eventually, Radford became their permanent home where they raised their daughters, Wendy and Kari. Generous and giving was the way she showed her love for her family. Her warm personal smile, always left a lasting impression with those she came in contact with.

She was an adoring grandmother to her three grandchildren, Keean, Indira and Jennabelle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vander Maurice Nester; brothers, Gaylon Alderman and Carlos Alderman. She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Nester Curtis (Jeremy), Kari Nester Edwards (Steven Lee); grandchildren, Keean Vander Eckert, Indira Rose Edwards, Jennabelle Mercedes Curtis; and Velma's siblings, Martin Alderman, Guida Alphadean Alderman Nester, and Wanda Alderman Mullins; brother and sister in laws, Elsie Alderman, Brenda Alderman, Wayne Nester, Allen and Jill Nester, Sonja and Dennis D'Souza, and Timmy and Joyce Nester; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

We have faith that our parents are reunited in heaven, enjoying dancing for this was one of their loved activities. May they forever Rest In Peace.

Memorial services will be for immediate family summer of 2022 by request of the deceased. In lieu of flowers, please donate to American Cancer Society, if you wish.
