*Note: The town of Evansville in Comanche County, where Bertram was born in 1889, was the headquarters of the largest cattle ranch in Kansas's history in 1880s. But now it is a ghost town, its once-thriving commissary building, with post office, grocery store and possibly a hotel, are long gone.

He was claiming exemption from the draft (the grounds for which were illegible - "Oeinlation"?).
B. A. Burton was described as medium in height, with a stout build, brown eyes, dark brown hair, with no physical disabilities of any kind.

According to his Apr. 27, 1942 WWII Draft Registration card, 53 yr. old Bertram Alvin Burton, b. Mar. 10, 1889 in Commanche, KS., was living in Salida, Chaffee county, Colorado.
Bertram was described as 5'5" tall, weighing 180 lbs., with blue eyes, brown hair, a ruddy complexion, wearing glasses, and with the third finger on his right hand broken.
The person who would always know his address was his wife, Jo Hazel Burton.

BERTRAM A. BURTON
Bertram Alvin Burton, 70, of 118 E. 18th St. died Monday at a San Bernardino hospital. A native of Kansas, he had resided in San Bernardino 14 years.
He was a retired packer at Norton Air Force Base and was a World War I veteran.
He was a member of Mt. Moriah No. 15, AF&AM of Canyon City, Coll., the Eastern Star of Canyon City, the Wichita Consistory of Wichita, Kan., and St. Paul's Methodist Church.
Surviving is his wife, J. Hazel,
two daughters, Mrs. Eugene West, Redlands, and Mrs. Eugene Lee, Osgood, Ind.;
two sisters, Mrs. Lulu Fabun, San Bernardino, and Mrs. Effie McGrath, Yucaipa;
five grandsons and three granddaughters.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grove Colonial Mortuary. Interment will be in Montecito Memorial Park.
The family suggests that donations be made to St. Paul's Methodist Church memorial fund.
