Carla was the baby of eight kids and grew up in Pocatello attending Greenacres Elementary, Hawthorne Jr. High. After graduating from Highland High School in 1968, she married Randy Cates; they had one son, Scott Cates, and later divorced. In July of 1971, she met the love of her life, John Hoffman, and they married October 26, 1972. Their children included Michael, Chrystal and Greg. They were sealed as a family on July 5, 1983 in Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Carla loved bowling and bowled leagues with her sister, Clifta, going to state bowling tournaments. In 1996 she found the love of scrapbooking. In the last 26 years, she made scrapbooks for her brothers, sisters, kids and grandkids. When not scrapbooking with her sister-in-law, Helen and her daughters-in-law, Shellie, Kelly and Krissy, she loved traveling with her brothers, sister, and sisters-in-law. Traveling to Washington to visit her older brother and sister and going to the Oregon Coast were just some of her favorite places. Carla loved being around her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. she loved to watch them play baseball, basketball, rugby, t-ball and camping. She never missed a Friday night watching her grandsons and great nephew play football at the Holt Arena. Her family was her everything. Carla worked at Kmart as the shoe department manager, Walmart, and Looney Tunes Dollar Store. She retired from Quail Ridge Assisted Living in 2019. Survivors beside her husband of almost 50 years included: children Scott Cates (Kelly), Chrystal Hoffman and Greg Hoffman (Kristine); daughter-in-law, Shellie Hoffman; her only surviving brother Ned Anderson (Ellen); 10 grandkids and 11 great-grandkids. Also precedied by brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Nyla Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Val and Pauline Anderson; brother Clyde Anderson; sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Bert Ballard; sister and brother-in-law Clifta and Tom Davidson; and sister Glenda Carter. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association. Funeral services held on Wednesday, February 9th at Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck
