Johnny Lee Barkley, eldest son of Don and Lois (Campbell) Barkley, was born on March 1, 1951, at Winona, Missouri. He passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Springfield, Missouri.

Johnny was united in marriage to Victoria Partridge on September 27, 1969, and to this union two daughters, Jessica and Amanda, were born. Johnny lived his entire life in the Winona area, except for a short period of time when he and Vicki lived in Canadian, Texas, working on a highway crew. He attended Winona Public Schools through 10th grade.

John was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother Billy Joe Downs, father and mother-in-law Don and Gladys (Johnson) Partridge, nephews Heath Herbst, Adam Barkley, and Jay Simpson, great-nephew Hunter Frost, and son-in-law Nick Atkins.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vicki Barkley; daughters Jessica Atkins (Ron Hanger) and Amanda Barkley (Jeff Needels), grandsons Stormy Atkins and Zach Needels (Carrie); great-grandsons Eli Atkins, Jack Needels and Kean Needels. Also surviving are his sister, Donita Barkley, of Leavenworth, Kansas; brother Terry Barkley (Mary Lou), Rolla, Missouri, and Gary Barkley (Shirley), Winona, Missouri; several nephews and nieces and numerous other relatives and many lifelong friends.

John was a charismatic man with a quick wit and outgoing personality. He was known among many as a great storyteller who never let the truth get in the way of a good story. From early childhood Johnny had an affinity for the outdoors and spent countless hours traipsing the woods in and around Shannon County, hunting and trapping. He was a hunting guide for 'out of towners' and known as a trader of goods, far and wide. There are many tales of his escapades throughout the years, never to be forgotten – catching snakes and scaring the girls on the school bus; riding bareback on a paint horse playing cowboys and Indians with Billy Joe; shooting a moose and gigging down the middle of the Chena River in Fairbanks, Alaska; riding around town with Ray McElwrath on a car chassis with no tires, and cutting up with his cousins and friends everywhere they went.

Graveside funeral services for Johnny Barkley will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022, at 12 o'clock p.m. at Falling Springs Cemetery, south of Winona, in Oregon County, Missouri, under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Mountain View, Missouri.

Following the services, a fellowship dinner provided by Katie Reese will take place at Motel 60 in Winona, Missouri, at the junction of 60 highway and 19 south. All are invited to attend and share in commemorating the life of Johnny Lee Barkley. He was loved, and he will be missed. Johnny was unique in a way that mirrored his ancestors and was never afraid to live his life on his own terms. Go with God, John.
