Gladys Marie Derrick Newman, 92, died Friday morning, July 10, in her home, after an extended period of hospice care. Gladys grew up in Etowah, Tennessee. She attended Carson Newman College, where she met the love of her life - "Buddy". They were married 61 years, and had three children. They attended Inglewood Baptist Church, Lakewood Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Donelson throughout their marriage.

Gladys lived a life full of service. For more than 40 years, she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and assisted in many other areas of Christian education. She began her life of community service as a Girl Scout leader, and finished, well into her 80s, through Meals on Wheels.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, James Newman, and daughter, Nancy Newman Levi. She is survived by her daughters Lynda Newman and Janis Newman Dodson (Barton); her grandchildren Jennifer Levi, Jon Levi (Kristi), Michael, Ellis and Casey Dodson and Kenny Meridith (Jessica); and great grandchildren AnnaLevi, Walker, Zoe and Canaan Chavis, KaraLynne and Madison Levi, and Roman Meredith, as well as son in law Mike Levi (Janice).

Gladys was a blessing to family and friends, and will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 12, from 4 to 7 PM, and her celebration service will be on Monday, July 13 at 11 am. Interment will follow immediately at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
