Our dear mother and grandmother, Joan Bartholomew Carroll (67), was reunited with her loving parents on January 23, 2022. She passed unexpectedly, but was in the presence of loving family. Joan was born in Fillmore, Utah to Duane and Rula Bartholomew on January 27, 1954. Her younger years were spent with her five siblings, helping at the family businesses – Duane's Foodtown and the DCR Department Store. She attended Millard High School, where she excelled in dance and cheerleading. Her talents eventually earned her a trip to perform in Europe with US Cheer. Joan spent most of her life raising her children and helping to rear some of her grandchildren as well. She took great pride in her four sons and four daughters and delighted in their achievements, whether it be their athletics, musical recitals, dance performances, or academic awards, Joan was the most enthusiastic stakeholder at the event. She was fiercely loyal when it came to her support for her children, and her grandchildren also felt that exact devotion when Grandma was championing them along in their lives. After Joan's children were raised, she began working at the VA Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she utilized her skills as a Certified Nurses Assistant and phlebotomist. She loved her job and caring for the veterans, which was no surprise…as she was a very patriotic individual, who raised her children to love America and its endless freedoms. This truth was emphasized even more through her three favorite soldiers – sons, Jeff (Major, US Army), Jared (Gunnery Sergeant, USMC), and Jake (Chief Warrant Officer, US Army). Joan's admiration and pride for American soldiers didn't end there though – her father (Corporal, US Army) and brother, Craig (Sergeant, US Army), as well as many other family members also served the country Joan loved so dearly. Her home and yard decor often paid tribute to her patriotism as she seldom missed an opportunity to add red, white, and blue to her surroundings. In addition to loving her children, grandchildren, and country, Joan also enjoyed singing and reading. Later in her life, we scarcely heard her sing, but when we did, it was a real pleasure. It was also a rare occasion she didn't have a book in hand; Joan promoted the importance of literacy and academics by being an example of a life-long learner and sharing the significance and pure joy of reading with her grandchildren – one of their favorite pastimes. Joan was the life of any party. This was apparent through fun times spent with her many friends on her bowling and pool leagues. Her witty sense of humor and infectious laugh made her the brightest light in the room. Her beautiful smile and unique personality has forever been impressed upon us. Joan is survived by her eight children – Jeff (Kodi), Jared (Jessa), Jake (Nichole) Jeremy, Jessica, Jacquelyn (David), Jamie (Justin), Jennifer (Tony), her 36 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews, who adore her. Her brothers and sisters – Joyce (Lafe), Craig (Betty Ann), Jayne (Don), Randy (Arlene), Julie (Dave) love her and will miss her a great deal but know they will be with her again. She is preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Rula Bartholomew and her brother, Russell. Funeral services will be held Saturday February 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30-10:3
