Joseph Davis Place was born September 15, 1916, to Joseph T. and Lena V. Place in Solomonville, Graham County, Arizona. Soon after he was born, the Place family moved to Fabens, El Paso County, Texas where Joseph T Place acquired a sizable tract of raw land and put it into cultivation. The land bordered the Rio Grande and Mexico. Young Joseph grew up during the time of the Pancho Villa Mexican Revolution and got to see lots of exciting things happening on the border. Besides farming, his father , Joseph T. Place was a Special Texas Ranger, in Co C, under Captain Bill Davis. There was lots of action every day with the Mexican Rebels. Joseph grew up in this exciting atmosphere.

Later in life, Joseph married and raised three children. He followed road construction, usually running jackhammers and churn drills. He also was a powder-man on many jobs. He worked at Castle Dome during WW11, mining copper.

Joseph or Joe as he was called, was an avid hunter and sportsman. He was an excellent shot and won many awards in Marksmanship with both pistol and rifle. He taught many young boys gun safety and marksmanship.

When Joe retired, he enjoyed hunting, placer mining and just enjoying life to the fullest.

Diabetes took it's toll on Joe and he passed away Jan 14, 1994 in Mesa, Arizona. He chose to be cremated and wanted his ashes scattered in one of his favorite hunting places.

Joe has been greatly missed by all who knew him. We miss his jolly disposition and hearty laugh. Rest in Peace, dear brother.
