Jackie was my great grandmother, my Mammaw. She was the kindest person that I've ever met. She loved her family and friends more than anything. She was always there when you needed someone to talk to. I looked forward to visiting her every weekend. She used to play dominos, monopoly, and hide and go seek with my sister and I. She would also sit with us and tell us stories, read us books, and watch movies with us. She was so amazing. She was also an amazing cook. She made the best fried chicken and thanksgiving stuffing in the world. She was in very good health until around June 2020, when she fell and broke her hip. However, she bounced back from it and made an amazing recovery. She was always a trooper. She suffered a very bad fall in December 2021, causing her health to begin declining. She recovered from that one as well, but sadly, she began falling more and more. She was put on hospice the Monday before she passed. She passed away on Friday, February 5, 2022. I love you so much Mammaw and you will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for being the best great grandmother and friend I could ever ask for.

Obituary:

Jacqueline Walker, 98, of Hurst, Texas passed away at the T Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Dallas on Friday, February 5. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be so greatly missed.

She was born on a farm near Anna, Texas on the warm summer day of August 14, 1923 to John James and Maude Lillian Beatrice (Baker) Minton. She was the 9th of 11 children. Jackie's childhood was filled with family, friends, and happy memories. She and her many siblings would play games and sports together, or with their cousins or the other children on their street. Her mother made sure all of her children graduated high school, as she had not. She gave them a loving home, a connection to God, and compassion for others. Jackie was very close to all of her siblings, especially her sister Mary. They were inseparable. In 1926, the family moved to Snyder, Texas. When Jackie was 6, her father died. This left her mother a single mother, but she worked hard to make sure her kids all had everything they wanted and needed. Jackie's older brother Carl became a father figure to her after this. In 1930, their house burned down along with most of their pictures and memories. After this, Jackie and her family moved back to Anna, and eventually to the small town of Van Alstyne, which was what Jackie would consider her "home" as a child. On her first day of high school, a tall, skinny blonde boy named Jack Walker walked into Jackie's English class. He was kind, shy, and very athletic. They had a wonderful conversation and took a liking to each other. They eventually began dating, a partnership that would last over 7 decades. Jackie graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1941. The United States joined World War II in late 1941 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, prompting Jack and Jackie to get married. They were married at the Kaufman County courthouse on February 21, 1942. After this, Jack joined the Army Air Corps, and they moved around the country to different Air Force bases. Jackie did her part of the war effort by holding jobs at various department and general stores. While visiting family in Dallas, their first child and daughter, Donna Eileen, was born on June 2, 1944. After the war was over, Jack and Jackie moved to Wichita Falls, where they were neighbors with Jackie's aunt, uncle, and cousin. Jackie continued working until the birth of her second child and daughter, Sandra Kay, on April 28, 1948. In 1953, the family moved to Fort Worth. Jackie gave birth to their third child and daughter, Mary Jane, on April 16, 1955. She passed away an hour after birth. This devastated both Jack and Jackie. On October 9, 1956, Jackie gave birth to their fourth child and first son, Charles Mark. Sometime in the mid 1950s, the family moved to Carrollton. On February 23, 1958, their fifth and final child and second son, Steven Timothy, was born. Jackie was an amazing mother, and always made sure that her children felt loved. She wanted them all to have a happy home life. She also made sure that all of them were close to their extended family. As her children have all said, she was the best mother in the world. In 1960, Jack and Jackie moved to a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house in suburban Hurst, Texas. This would be their forever home. Jackie was eventually blessed with 5 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, who all affectionately knew her as "Mammaw". She was an amazing grandmother. She would play games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, read stories to them, and let them do whatever they wanted. You could do anything at Mammaw's house, and she wouldn't get mad. She saw it as them letting their imagination run free, and letting their creativity shine through. Jackie was also an amazing cook. Her fried chicken, chocolate turtles, divinity candy, and stuffing were to die for. Jack and Jackie's later years were spent mainly with their family. After 72 years of marriage, Jack passed away from natural causes at the age of 90, surrounded by his family and Jackie, the love of his life. Jackie was devastated, but stayed strong for her family, as she knew they needed her most during this time. She was in amazing health for her age, and lived alone for a while, with her daughter Donna living with her periodically. In June 2020, Jackie fell in the shower and fractured her hip. She survived surgery and made quite a miraculous recovery. Her beloved son, Mark, passed away unexpectedly in October 2020, which devastated her. Her family threw her a 98th birthday party, which she greatly enjoyed. She moved in with her daughter Donna in September 2021, leaving behind her home of 61 years. In December 2021, she suffered another fall that landed her in the hospital. She was able to walk again with her walker a few days later. However, she suffered multiple other falls in January that landed her in the hospital. She was moved to a rehab facility. The doctors discovered that her organs were shutting down, and it was best to put her on hospice. She spent her final days at T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center, receiving visits by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She passed away on February 5, 2022.
