We are praising God today that Linda Cooley Oliver, "Nanny Linda", 74, of Piedmont, SC, has celebrated her heavenly homecoming on January 17, 2022, while surrounded by her loving family.
Yesterday, she was bravely battling an illness and today she is playing her piano for the Hallelujah Choir! She is victorious! She is celebrating her victory with loved ones that have gone before her. She was welcomed into heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was reunited with open arms by her loving husband, Sammy Oliver, of 43 years. Her precious grandson, Cody Oliver, had a seat waiting for her at the banquet table. Her parents, Vance and Jessie Cooley, of Pelzer, had been anxiously awaiting her arrival as well. Others that attended her homecoming celebration were her loving brothers, Grady and Edward Cooley of Easley, Kenneth, Leon, and Ronnie Cooley of Pelzer, and Jimmy Cooley (Wanda) of Piedmont. Also, her brothers-in-law, Carol Ellison of Gray Court and Jimmy Oliver, of Williamston were in attendance.
How amazing it must have been to hear as Nanny was told, "Job well done".
She was adored by her family and they are looking forward to seeing her again one day. Awaiting their heavenly reunion are her children, Tony Oliver (Annette) of Piedmont, Laura Cantrell (Bill) of Travelers Rest, Jane Qubti (Marwan) of Easley, and Marty Oliver (Misty) of Pelzer. Nanny Linda's grands were her most prized legacy. This legacy included 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, whom she lovingly referred to as "Nanny's babies". The grands always looked forward to a visit to Nanny's house because she had the best toy collection ever!
Missing her on this side of heaven is her best friend and sister, Sylvene Massey (Horace) of Greenville; sisters-in-law (but more like sisters) Gaylene and Faye Cooley of Easley, Clara, Dana, and Patricia Cooley of Pelzer, and Joyce Ellison of Gray Court; brother-in-law, Michael Oliver, of Williamston; and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Pelzer, SC, she attended Palmetto High School, and was raised in the Pelzer Wesleyan Church, where she played the piano. Many of the memories her family have are of "Nanny Linda" sitting at the piano and playing all of her hymnal favorites. Even when Alzheimer's Disease stole much of her mind and body, she was still able to play her piano.
Mrs. Oliver was an active member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Easley and loved her church family. She retired from Estes Plant in Piedmont as a cotton spinner. After her retirement, she had a successful online boutique and bookstore. She was an excellent cook and best known for her famous peanut butter balls at Christmas time. She loved thrift shopping and antiques. It's just not possible to tell a story about Nanny that does not include her silly sense of humor. We have been comforted by the many stories of her antics. And, how beautiful were her baby blue eyes, affectionately known as the "Cooley Blues"!
Her soul has already entered heaven, but we will lay her body to rest next to her husband immediately following the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.
