He was united in marriage to Nellie May Crawford on December 23, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed and made their home throughout their married life in the Volga area. In his earlier years, Bud worked on the Walter's Dairy Farm in Waterloo. He was a top producer with Holstein dairy cows. He also sold Archer oil. Bud enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, being outdoors, woodworking, video taping parades and spending time with grandchildren. He dressed up as Santa for the neighborhood children and had hayrides for 4-H and church youth groups. He was an active member of the Wadena Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and a deacon.
Survivors include his four children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on October 21, 2005; two children who died in infancy; a son-in-law, Chuck Hansel and two sisters, Daisy Acuff and Hazel Voshell.
