T. LEROY CARDON IS ACCIDENTLY KILLED

Prominent Logan Man Suffers Fatal Injury While Hunting Ducks.

A coroners jury in the office of Coroner Joseph L. Mabey of Davis County late yesterday brought in a verdic that T. LeRoy Cardon of Logan was killed by the accidental discharge of his gun whlle duck hunting at the New State Gun Club at Woods Cross.

Word of Mr. Cardon's death was received in Salt Lake shortly after noon yesterday.

According to testimony offered at the inquest, Mr. Cardon, in company with several friends, went to the gun club early yesterday. Joseph C. Sharp, former sheriff of Salt Lake County, and Mr. Cardon occupied a boat behind a blind and had for some time, awaited an opportunity for a shot. Mr. Cardon was at one end of the boat, Mr. Sharp at the other with his back turned to his companion.

Two ducks suddenly flew into range and Mr. Sharp fired two shots, missing. Hearing a shot from behind, and noting that the ducks were unharmed, he remarked, without turning.

"Neither one of us is shooting very straight."

Receiving no reply, he turned. Mr. Cardon was lying in the bottom of the boat, his head shattered by shot His gun lay beside him. Aid was summoned, but physicians decided death had been almost instantaneous.

The body will be taken to Logan this afternoon. No funeral arrangements have yet been made.

Mr. Sharp, speaking of the accident, said he believed Mr. Cardon was sitting with his gun behind him and reached for it as the birds began to fly. Careful investigation by members of the coroner's jury resulted in the expression of the opinion that the gun had, in some manner, caught on the edge of the boat or become tangled in the blind, exploding when Mr. Cardon grasped it.

Mr. Cardon came to Salt Lake Tuesday and visited John F. Bennett of the Bennett Paint & Glass Company. Yesterday afternoon he went to the gun club as the guest of Wellington B. Stafford, who is connected with the Bennett firm.

Mr. Stafford said last night he was not near Mr. Cardon at the time of tho accident and declined to hazard an explanation.

Mr Cardon was born in Logan September 20, 1872. He was manager of the Cardon Jewelry Store at Logan, was president of the Booster Club and in politics. He was fond of hunting and bore a reputation as a good marksman. Friends say they cannot recall his having a accident previous to the one which yesterday caused his death.
