Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Leona English, pioneer local resident and mother of Mrs. June Wilder of Pomona, who passed away at 5:10 a. m. Wednesday in Cloverdale, Calif., after a long illness, will be held in Todd Memorial chapel here at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon. Interment will be made in Pomona cemetery by the side of her husband, Louis L. English, who passed away in 1915.
Mrs. English was born December 14, 1853, in Titus county, Texas. She came to California 83 years ago and made her home for many years in Santa Ana, where she was a charter member of the First Baptist church and became the last surviving charter member.
She later moved to Chino, where she lived for some time, and in 1922 she came to Pomona where she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wilder, until 1940. She then went to Cloverdale to make her home with another daughter, Mrs. Arvilla Akers with whom she was residing the time of her death.
Mrs. English is survived by a, son, Walter English, Cloverdale, Calif., and four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Fletcher, Maricopa, Calif.; Mrs. Arvilla Akres, Cloverdale, Mrs. June Wilder, Pomona, and Mrs. May Dunn, San Francisco. There also are several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
