Matilde "Tillie" Madrid passed away at Lovelace Hospital after a short illness, on Monday, December 27, 2021.
Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, son, George and great-grandson, Fabian López.
Tillie is survived by her daughter, Louisa, son, Mark and his wife, Anna, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister, Celina Silva, brother, Pete Chávez and his wife, Lindell, sister, Mary Barros and her husband, Jimmy and many nieces and nephews.
Tillie Madrid was born on June 1, 1932 in Vaughn, New Mexico. Tillie was the third of eight children born to Alejandro and Carolina Chávez.
Tillie married Louis Madrid in 1951 and they had three children, Louisa, George and Mark.
Together, Tillie and Louis were business owners beginning in the late 50s, having owned The Casa Blanca and later the El Madrid Lounge for more than 40 years, which she ran until retiring in 2013.
When Hollywood came knocking, several movies were filmed at the bar with many A-List stars in leading rolls.
Tillie had a great sense of humor, she loved to laugh and make others laugh with her, most of all she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
Tillie's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 5:00 pm at Salazar Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW, Albuquerque, NM. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Mass will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho NM. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Pallbearers will be Michael Barros, Joseph Madrid, Eric Chávez, Peter Chávez, Louis López and Alejandro Chávez.
