He was united in marriage to Rachel Rebecca Ridlen on July 4, 1873, Marion County, Iowa. To this union, 9 known children were born: Asa Inman, Lillie Vea Inman, Powers "Pete" Inman, Walter Inman, Alta Inman, Jennie May Inman, Lushen W. Inman, Lemuel E. Inman, and Russell Benjamin Inman.

S. L. Inman, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Inman, was born July 25, 1851, in Indiana, and passed from earth to heaven Sunday at 4:30 p.m., January 3, 1932, aged 80 years, six months and nine days.
He was united in marriage to Rachel R. Ridlen, July 4, 1873. To this union were born nine children: Asa, of Oakland, Iowa; Mrs. Lillie Jones, of Redfield; Powers and Russell, of Earlham; Luah of Rockford; and Mrs. Jennie Pope, of Mason City. Lemuel passed away June 28, 1931 and Walter and ---- in infancy. Mrs. Inman passed away April 19, 1923.
Mr. Inman became a Christian when young and has been a faithful Christian all these years. He first joined the Methodist Church and when they moved from Pottawattamie County to Dallas County, he joined the U. B. Church and was Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School teacher for many years at Hickory Grove church. He was a kind husband and father. His children all call him a blessing, he was always so kind and patient, never an unkind word during all his long days of suffering. Just a few minutes before he passed on he said, "I want to go up and be with the others."
He will be sadly missed by his children and friends.
He leaves to miss his dear presence, his children and 37 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. One grandson passed away 13 years ago. He also leaves one brother and two sisters, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Earlham Friends Church Tuesday morning with Rev. S. N. Hester officiating. Burial was made in the Earlham Cemetery.
