Born in Foss, Oklahoma, Willard was valedictorian of the Foss High School Class of 1948 and enlisted in the USAF in 1949. He proudly served his country with the 19th Bomb Wing during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After his military service, Willard graduated Cum Laude from Southwestern State University in Wethersford, OK and later received an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business. Following a brief stint teaching in Oklahoma, Willard worked for Equitable Life and then spent 25 years with Prudential Life Insurance in Newark, NJ, retiring in 1989. Willard is a long-time member of the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains. He was also an active member of the Prudential Retirees Club and a member of the American Legion. He also volunteered with many community organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (Lockwood), his daughter Ann Humphrey Maier and her husband Jim of Pequannock, NJ, his son Bruce Humphrey of Warwick, RI, his grandchildren Leslie and Jack Maier of Pequannock, his brother-in-law John Maloy of Foss, OK, and his sister-in-law Joyce Canfield of Pequannock. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Toney and Bernice Humphrey, his brother Maurice Bowers and sisters Mary Shinn and Sylvia Lou Maloy.
A memorial service will be held graveside on Saturday, September 3rd at 10:30am at the First Reformed Church Cemetery in Pompton Plains, NJ.
