Sonny started his career four years in the Air Force (1954-1958) as crash and rescue, two years of that spent in Germany. He continued his heroism with the Marion Fire Department. Sonny was a faithful believer in Christ and enjoyed reading his Bible and watching Pastor Charles Stanley. He enjoyed watching the Indiana Pacers and Chicago Cubs.
