During the past forty-eight hours the citizens of Springfield have been horrified by the occurrence of two deaths by car-wheels, one a bright young lad of nearly twelve summers, and the other in the full flush of young manhood. The little fellow was Frankie P. Boone, son of Mrs. E. P. Boone, who resides at South Fourth street. Saturday afternoon, while attempting to board a moving freight train on the Chicago & Alton Railroad, he missed his footing and fell beneath the wheels... The little fellow was taken to his grief stricken mother and doctors did all it was possible to do to alleviate his sufferings. He lingered until twelve o'clock Saturday night, when he was relieved of his sufferings by death. He was a great favorite with al who knew him and his mother has the sympathy of all. The funeral will occur from her home this afternoon. - IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 11-1-1880
