One Of The Oldest Citizens Of County Dies

J. Benson McCleskey, of Gunsight, one of the oldest and best loved residents of the county, passed away at 6 o'clock this morning at the family home, general old age given as the cause of his demise.

The deceased was 94 years of age having been born in Hall County, Georgia in 1834, moving to Stephens County 48 years ago where he has lived as one of the highly respected and progressive citizens of the county ever since.

This estimable man had the distinction of having been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years, in good standing at the time of his death. He had also been a member of the Methodist Church for the past 85 years, active in religious work that was ennobling and uplifting during that period of time.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Fred McCleskey of Coleman, and six daughters, as follows; Mrs. Anne Shepard, Eastland; Mrs. Dee Baggett, Albany; Mrs. Enlow, Berkley, Cal.; Mrs. Anna Jennings, Slayton; Mrs. Mary Tolle, Gunsight; Mrs. Maude Kizur, Flagstaff, Ariz. He was also a great uncle of M. P. Kiker of this city. 43 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren survive him, making a grand total of 137 descendants.

Funeral services were held at Gunsight, Rev. G.R. Wright, officiating.
