Stephen D. McCleskey, son of J.J. and M.A. McCleskey, was born In Marshal county Alabama May 17 1860, came to Texas when quite young, first to Smith county ,then to Hood County, where he spent the greater part of his remaining life,was married to Miss Jennie McCraw, of Stephens County, November 1 1882. This union was blessed with two children.One preceded hid father to the better world, the other, Bethie a sweet little girl, is still living to be a blessing to her bereaved mother. Bro. McCleskey was coverted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church,South, while young, at Rock Church Camp -ground, under the ministry of Rev. E.W.Simmons.He was truly a faithful Christian-ever ready, under all circumstances, to do his duty.He was a ideal father,a faithful husband and a model citizen. Death came March 17 1898.He was ready.We laid him to rest at Rock Church. The writer talked to a large congregation,evidencing the esteem in which Bro.McCleskey was held in the community in which he lived,labored and died.
