Daughter of Eugene Edwin (Captain, US Army, WWII) and Elizabeth Armstrong Traber. Her hometown was Madison, GA, where she attended Morgan County High School. She graduated with a BSEd in 1963 from the University of Georgia and was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity, as were her mother, sister, and a daughter. She met her first husband, Charles Sanders Brightwell, Sr. (Major, US Air Force, Vietnam War) of Maxeys, GA, while studying at UGA, and they married while he was earning his Master's degree in Forestry. They raised their three children in Savannah: Layne (Chuck), Laura (David) and Sanders, Jr. (Ashley). Sanders, Sr. passed away at the age of 38. Thirteen years later, she married Isaac Jess Chappell, III. In her younger years, she gave tours for Historic Savannah Foundation, taught aerobics, danced to music of the fifties, and starred in the Junior League Follies. She was preceded in death by her parents; and both husbands. Surviving are her children; and grandchildren, Crawford, Zoe, and Carys.
