Louise Sylvia Chiki, 90, of Berwick, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

Born August 2, 1931, in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Frances (Chickalese) Durso.
Louise grew up on LaSalle Street in Berwick with her 11 brothers and sisters and continued to live in the house where she was born and raised.

She attended Berwick High School, Class of 1950.

She was a devoted member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Berwick. It was at St. Joseph's where she married the love of her life, Charles Chiki, by the Rev. Francis Mongelluzzi on June 14th, 1952; they had a marital span of 63 years before Charles passed away in 2016.

She worked for several years as a waitress at the Maria Assunta, Berwick. It was there that she met Don Ruggerio, whom she later introduced to her daughter and who eventually became her son-in-law.

She truly cared about her community and volunteered her time at the Berwick Hospital Gift Shop for 25 years and served as President in the Over Fifty Club at St. Joseph Church, Berwick.

Louise was a devoted homemaker. She was a selfless servant to so many and was a faithful caretaker her entire life for family, friends, and neighbors. She was notorious for gifting small tokens of love and appreciation to people she was fond of; she had an affinity for angel ornaments and state quarters, and if you were lucky enough to receive one, you were blessed. She thoroughly enjoyed living life and adored her family above all; she would often say, "Love makes the world go round."

Preceding her in death were her husband of 63 years, Charles G. "Charlie" Chiki, who died April 22, 2016; and eleven siblings: Ralph Durso, Michael Durso, Loretta Durso, Rudolph Durso, Theresa Farthing, Julia Krisansky, Agnes Antalosky, Peter Durso, Frank Durso, and Frances "Dolly" Hill.

Louise is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Sherry M. Ruggerio of Berwick; two grandchildren: Christopher Ruggerio and his wife, Janet, and Teresa, wife of Gabe Peters; five great-grandchildren: Angeni, Alex, and Ava Peters, and Enza and Donato Ruggerio; her sister, Rachel Belles of Berwick, and sister-in-law, Rose Chiki, Berwick, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021, from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick, with the Rev. William T. Barbee, her pastor, officiating as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Berwick.

Donations can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Berwick, and/or For the Cause Teen Center, 1130 6th Ave. Berwick.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., Berwick.
