Donald was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. He retired from Louisville Gas & Electric. He was one of the founding members of the Termite Club. He enjoyed playing softball for many years and was inducted into the A. S. A. Softball Hall of Fame in 1994. He went on to umpire too many games to count for various men & women's softball leagues as well as the Special Olympics. He was an avid golfer and a lover of all sports in general that required a ball. Dad never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. If you went anywhere wit him it was a rare trip if you didn't run into someone who called him friend. In town or another state, no matter where he went, it never failed to happen.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents ; his loving wife, Shirley Key;; son, Lawrence Key; brother, Mark Bender; his life-long friend, Frank Sipes..
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gregory Key (Katherine), Melinda Thieneman (Ken), and David Key; sisters, Vicki Lang (Wesley), Kathy Johnson (David), and Brenda Kaltofen; grandchildren, Jason Winn (Brittney), Whitney Shircliff, Olivia Key, Chip Gokey, Ananda Abbott (John); 7 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Resurrection will be at St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church, 5431 Johnsontown Rd. with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church. Time TBA
