WOOSTER — Mary Ann Kolarovsky Knowlton of Wooster passed away suddenly on May 31, 2017, while on vacation in Montego Bay, Jamaica, celebrating her 70th birthday.
Mary Ann was born in Youngstown to the Rev. Andrew and Ann (Morrison) Kolarovsky, and was a 1965 graduate of Northwestern High School. She had attended the Columbus College of Art & Design.
She married Brenton Knowlton and raised two children while traveling to California before moving back to Ohio. After they separated they remained good friends.
Mary Ann's favorite career was waitressing at Coccia House Pizza due to her love of serving people. This calling followed her throughout her entire life from Good Neighbors Inc in Pasadena, Calif., helping senior citizens who lived alone to Meals on Wheels, Beacon House and Big Sisters Program in Wooster.
At 60 years old, Mary Ann achieved sobriety which she maintained until the day she died. She was active in AA locally as a sponsor, meeting leader and treasurer and on the district level as a speaker and bookkeeper. She helped many others in their quest for sobriety because she understood the suffering inherent in addiction. Mary Ann spent time every day in meditation and prayer and lived her life deeply grateful to God for lifting her up to become the person she wanted to be.
She cherished the many weekends she spent with her three grandsons and with Dirk, who she mentored as her "Little Brother." She loved crossword puzzles, movies, playing the piano, "speed reading" books, nature and especially sunbathing at the pool or the beach.
Mary Ann will be deeply missed by her children, Rachael Baughman and Andrew (Tina) Hazemy; grandchildren, Trenton Knowlton, Vincent Knowlton, Eric Hazemy, Danielle (Bob) Arnold, Stefanie Boreman and Mitch Boreman; great-grandsons, Benjamin Arnold, Parker Arnold and Rocco Boreman; her sister, Andrea (Bill) Nelson; a nephew, Ian (Stephanie) Kolarovksy, and a niece, Kendra Kolarovsky; a great-nephew, Apollo Kolarovsky; friends, Miss Peg, Deb Dog, her best friend, Sheri Borgeson, and the many friends she made over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, John Kolarovksy.
Private family interment will be held in New Pittsburg Cemetery. Please join us at Oak Hill Pavilion on Saturday, Aug. 19 between 3 and 5 p.m. to share stories, laugh and celebrate the beautiful life of Mary Ann Knowlton.
