In addition to his parents he was preceded by his sister, Jane Elizabeth (Truslow) Alley in 2007.
Grover joined the US Navy just out of high school in December 1951 and was discharged from active service in September 1955. After he completed basic training he was assigned to the Hunter Killer Force, Atlantic Fleet and was selected to serve on the staff of Rear Admiral Daniel Vincent Gallery on the USS Mindoro, CVE-120. After his sea duty he was stationed at the Norfolk, Virginia Navy Base as an instructor in the hobby shop until he completed his active service. Upon completing his four years of active duty he wasn't finish serving his county or the US Navy but enlisted in the active reserves for several tours of duty. He was proud of serving in the US Navy and especially the time he served on the staff of Rear Admiral A. D. Gallery.
He enjoyed his retirement home with Ricki on their farm raising cows, horses and chickens and riding around in his "side-by-side", tractor and skid steer helping to take care of the farm chores and maintenance.
In his earlier years he enjoyed his motorcycles taking road trips and scuba diving. He enjoyed construction, building additions on his homes and constructing two homes in Virginia. He enjoyed watching the deer, beavers, turkeys, geese, ducks, birds, squirrels and other animals that roamed their many acres of forest, pastures and ponds. His move back to Virginia was a desire that he always had and he finally succeeded when he retired.
Grover's career path began after he was discharged from the Navy as an insurance agent, a furniture buyer for a major company in Baltimore, a carpenter for a large Construction Company in Baltimore, owner of a family home improvement company, construction manager of housing development, co-owner of a development company restoring several city blocks in Baltimore city. Grover then took a building inspector position with the State of Maryland which he enjoyed and worked there until he retired.
