Marilyn Beckman-Niles, of Naples, FL passed away December 26, 2011. Born November 14, 1926 in Columbus, OH, she was the daughter of Earl W. and Lou (Patton) Smith. While she did spend several years working as a real estate agent, Marilyn Smith, a South High School graduate, was best known for her singing talents. Marilyn gained confidence in her vocal abilities after winning a national singing contest. Deciding to pursue a promising singing career, Marilyn left The Ohio State University Music Program and created the stage name of Daye. Marilyn Daye performed on television and in music venues throughout Central Ohio. She sang with the Don Crawford and Chuck Selby Big Bands, appearing frequently at Valley Dale. In the 70's, Marilyn formed the Capital City Jazz Band, performing regularly at The Dell, in German Village. Marilyn spent her retirement years singing with keyboardist, Dan Keane. The Marilyn and Dan Duo gave their last public performance in Naples, FL on Valentine's Day. Marilyn will be sorely missed by family and friends. Marilyn is survived by her children, Debra L. (Tiney) McComb and Tracy S. (Sherry) Beckman; step-sons, Casey Beckman and Ford (Cynthia) Beckman; step-daughters, Barbara, Margie, and Theresa; grandchildren, Brian, Derek, Alex, Connor; step-grandchildren, Andy (Heather), Chris, and Isabella Beckman and Scott (Mindy) King. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Frederick F. "Spook" Beckman and Ralph Niles, and her sister Betty Jacobs. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, December 30th from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at FULLER FUNERAL HOME, 1625 Pine Ridge Rd., Naples, FL with a memorial ceremony following at 12:15 p.m. Inurnment will be private.
