Funeral services for lifelong Lampasas County resident George Tom Brister, 88, of Lometa are July 23, 2004, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lometa. Burial will follow at Senterfitt Cemetery near Lometa

Mr. Brister died July 20 at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas. He was born June 12, 1916, in Scallorn, to Raymond Jefferson and Elizabeth Fox Brister.

Mr. Brister married Velma Frances Johnson on Oct. 14, 1939, in San Saba. They were married for nearly 65 years.

He served for a brief time in the U.S. Navy during 1945, and was a self-employed truck driver, farmer and rancher.

Mr. Brister was a member of First Baptist Church of Lometa and the Lometa American Legion. He was reared in Senterfitt in Lampasas County.

Survivors include his wife of Lometa; a son, Rayford Brister, of Lometa; daughters, Patricia Dorsey, and husband, Tommy, of Pasadena, Texas, Judy McDonald, of Fort Worth, Janice Brister, of Houston, Nelda Kammlah, and husband, Mike, of Austin, and Tico Hicks, and husband, Tommy, of Lometa; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Sammy Brister, in 1973; by three sisters, Mary Lee Scott, Janie Mae Hall and Jewell Norris; and by one brother, Samuel Brister.
Pallbearers are Michael McDonald, Sammy Brister, Christopher Dorsey, Matthew Kammlah, Mason Kammlah and Douglas Brister.

The family requested memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, American Kidney Foundation or to Senterfitt Cemetery Association.
